Here are some of the highlights that set Volleyball Position Camp apart from other general skill camps. Position Specific Training The general concept of Volleyball Position Camp is to train in your chosen position (outside hitter, middle blocker, setter, and libero) with athletes of similar age and ability. The camp combines all major positions and provides position specific training. It provides the athlete with learning opportunities far beyond what any other regular skills camp can offer. (Click on each Position Name below for detailed information about that position specific camp experience - Opens in a new window) Specialty Training Sessions Each week VPC designates one day for specialty training sessions. This day is designed for the athlete to gain new or additional experiences in jump serving, standing float serving, individual defense, advanced defensive techniques, individual serve receive, advanced serve receive techniques, arm action correction, wipe-off techniques, ball recovery skills, second ball attack for setters and others. Athletes will be able to choose the coach and the activities they wish to take part in via a sign up for that particular day. Beyond the Court There are many external factors that influence an athlete's performance on the court. At Volleyball Position Camp, we will provide Sport Science training sessions addressing areas such as proper nutrition; mental skills training and a physical training session – all areas are specifically geared towards the female volleyball player. As well, video analysis will be a part of the curriculum at VPC. Educating the athlete in these areas will only help to strengthen their game. Coaching Staff Volleyball Position Camp coaches are experienced athletes and coaches chosen for their ability to teach skills and provide feedback to the athlete. Over the years, VPC has had current and former National, Professional, University, and College Team players, in addition to current University and College coaches. You will not find a more qualified coaching staff throughout the country. All of the coaches are educators/teachers (with an innate ability to connect with teenagers), self-motivated, driven, have a love of volleyball, and are themselves life-long learners in the sport of volleyball. Eligible Athletes This is not a general skills camp and athletes attending are expected to be in good physical condition. As well, coaches will assume you have a solid background in the sport of volleyball. Eligible athletes include
Daily Schedule Camps run from Monday through Friday and include four separate training sessions. The first 2 sessions are position specific and the final 2 offer combination training between setters and hitters, and game play. Athletes are encouraged to bring a water bottle and a healthy lunch to camp each day. Athlete Boarding for Calgary Camps #1 and #2 Ms. Judy Goldsworthy, a teacher at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, will be offering a boarding facility for our Calgary campers. The location of the facility is southeast Calgary - a district called Sundance. The facility is able to accommodate 12 to 15 campers each week. See our "Host City Tourism Links" web page for further details. Camp Cost Due to our exceptional quality of coaches, innovative concepts, safe and excellent facilities and to support our coach to player ratio (1:10-12), this camp can not be in the same cost category as a traditional skills camp.
